Health Insurance
Health Insurance Requirement
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Public Law 111-148, Texas Education Section 51.958, and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, Public Law, 111-152, which collectively known as the Affordable Care Act, state that in 2014 all enrolled college students, graduate and undergraduate, must have health insurance. Proof of insurance must be provided to the Rangel College of Pharmacy on or before the first day of class.
Health Insurance through the Texas A&M University System
A group health insurance plan is offered to students at each member academic institution to supplement the health services that may be provided by the academic institution under the group hospital and medical services fee. The plan includes optional coverage for students’ dependents.
ANY ENROLLED Texas A&M University System student taking at least six credit hours of classes is eligible to enroll in this insurance plan. Students who are enrolled in special classes and take less than six credit/contact hours of class work will be deemed eligible for this Student Health Insurance Plan if the reduced coursework meets the criteria for the completion of a degree plan or international program as defined and approved by The Texas A&M University System.
Health Insurance for international students
International students, those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States, are required to maintain approved health insurance coverage continuously while enrolled and attending a Texas A&M System institution, unless the student provides proof of coverage that meets Texas A&M University System waiver requirements. (TAMU Policy #26.99.01).
All registered and enrolled Texas A&M University System graduate students employed by the System are eligible to enroll in this insurance plan (no minimum hour requirement).
